Welcome

 Welcome Guests!

Whether you are looking for a church to call home, or just a church to visit while your away from home, we know it can sometimes be difficult to find the right one.  Be assured, we would love to have you join us.                             You are welcome here!

Our Mission is simple.  "We exist for the glory of God, to introduce people to Jesus and to teach them to follow Him."

If your looking for a "perfect" church, you will have to look elsewhere.  We are just sinners saved by grace, growing in faith ourselves, excited about what we see God doing in our midst. We invite you to join us for the journey.

We are grateful that you would prayerfully consider First Baptist Church, Colbert. Feel free to contact us if you have questions.                                                                                                                                                                      Email: info@firstbaptistcolbert.com

Announcements

Updating our response to the coronavirus:

Wednesday, March 25, 2020

Consistent with the Governor's declaration and with a confirmed case in Bryan County, all services have been cancelled until further notice.  Sunday Morning Worship will continue to be livestreamed on Facebook.

Updating our response to the coronavirus:

Sunday March 22, 2020

Tonight and Wednesday night services have been cancelled.  Unless otherwise notified, normal Sunday morning services will continue.

Our response to the coronavirus:

as of March 19,2020

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."      Philippians 4:6-7

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind."                                                                              2 Timothy 1:7

Know that your church's leadership is constantly reassessing how the ministries of the church should be altered due to the impact of the coronavirus in our area.  As you are aware, this is a rapidly changing situation.  As of today, under the leadership of the pastor, deacons, and even a balloted poll of our Wednesday evening crowd, our intention is currently to continue our Bible study and worship ministries.  All activities, such as trips to Braum's and potluck dinners have been cancelled or suspended to a later time.

If anyone, and that means "anyone," including teachers and other church leaders feel they should stay home at this time, you have not only our understanding, but our blessing to do so.  Keeping the church doors open does not mean we expect or even encourage all to attend.  If you are a senior adult, your immunity is low, you have a respiratory challenge, or you tend to someone in one of these risk categories, use Godly wisdom before coming.  If you don't feel well or have been sick in the past 3 or 4 days, please stay home.  Certainly, if you have reason to believe you have been exposed to the virus, don't risk exposing others.  Our services are live so, we would welcome you to join us for our services.

During these uncertain times we should:

1.  Expect Change

These aren't normal days so among the not-so-normal things you might notice this Sunday:

A.  Bible Study-Sunday School classes meeting together in a larger space such as the Family Life Center or the Auditorium.  After Sunday School, younger children will stay in the Childrens Church area until Worship Service is concluded.

B.  Doormen who will open the outside doors as you enter so everyone doesn't grab the same doorknob.

C.  Passing the offering plates replaced with a simple offering basket at the back of the Auditorium.

D.  Handshaking discouraged, vigorous handwashing encouraged, hand sanitizer readily available.

2.  Give Generously

To speak directly, we have some among us whose finances have been or will be affected negatively by these changing times.  The likelihood of Sundays without services is a growing probability.  Yet the work and ministry of the church and its costs continue.  The joyful and generous giving of the entire body to the work of the church will assure that provision is made for God's work.

3.  Pray Fervently

A.  Praise God that He is still Sovereign.  He is on His throne.  Pray that we might trust Him and His guidance in these days.

B.  Pray for wisdom for church leaders , governmental leaders and all those in positions of authority that their actions would be appropriate, strategic, and wise.

C.  Pray for God's hand of blessing and protection to be upon His church as we navigate through difficult days.

D.  Pray for comfort and healing to those who become sick.  Pray for effective treatments and a needed vaccine.

E.  Pray for our Doctors, Nurses, first responders, and other medical personnel that God might protect and empower them for their own health and the health of others.

F.  Pray that God's people might experience His promised peace and calm.  Pray for freedom from fear and panic as we trust in Him.

"Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do i give to you.  Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."      John 14:27

G.  Pray that the people of God would use this opportunity to share the hope we have in Christ with a helpless and panicked community and world.
